The entity's joint business rescue practitioners, Anoosh Rooplal and Juanito Damons, have announced the completion of all administrative procedures necessary for the disbursement of the first portion of severance packages. This move comes as a relief to the workforce affected by the retrenchment process.
However, SAPO continues to face operational hurdles, as evidenced by the non-payment of electricity bills in certain regions.
This has resulted in service disruptions, particularly impacting rural customers who now face the inconvenience of travelling longer distances to access postal services.
Juanito Damons, one of the business rescue practitioners, provided clarity on the situation. "We have finalised the administrative aspects concerning the severance package payments to the retrenched staff.
“Consequently, we are poised to initiate the early release of the first tranche of these packages, which will be deposited into the former employees' accounts starting the week of June 10," Damons explained.
The resolution of the severance payments is a positive step towards addressing the financial woes of the post office, but the ongoing issues highlight the need for a more comprehensive solution to restore full functionality and service reliability to this essential public utility.
