‘AI to create more jobs than it replaces’

Date: Jul 21, 2025

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not expected to replace human jobs, but people who know how to use it will have the upper hand in the future job market.

That’s according to Mosidi Modise, who serves as a director on both the South African and United Kingdom boards of the Good Work Foundation.

Modise believes AI is more likely to open up new job opportunities rather than take them away. She pointed to global research showing how AI is changing the way people work rather than replacing workers altogether.

Referring to insights from the World Economic Forum, Modise said AI is already shifting the nature of work. A recent report suggests AI could create up to 170 million new jobs worldwide by the year 2030, even though it is expected to change around 90 million current roles.

“The numbers show there’s actually a major net gain in employment,” Modise said. “AI is helping to automate boring and routine tasks, which frees people up to focus on more creative and rewarding work.”

Modise also highlighted the importance of training and upskilling, arguing that the real opportunity lies in helping people understand how to use AI to their advantage in different sectors.
