SA commits to Sustainable Development Goals by 2030

Date: Sep 20, 2024

South Africa's (SA) Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, has reaffirmed the nation's commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the year 2030.

Addressing attendees at the prestigious "She's Next Awards," Letsike highlighted the significant investments made by the country in pursuit of these global objectives.

Despite the challenges faced by many countries lagging in some SDG areas, SA stands firm in its resolve. The "She's Next Awards," a ceremony recognizing the strides made by women entrepreneurs, served as the perfect backdrop for Letsike's declaration.

The event, a collaboration between financial giants Visa and Absa Bank, underscored the progress women have made in the business sector.

"We are tasked with the delivery of our SDGs, and it's not just about SDG4. Our nation has dedicated substantial resources, and I am confident that we will not only meet SDG4 but all our SDG targets," stated Letsike.

With the commencement of the seventh administration, Letsike posed a rhetorical question to the audience, "What more can you measure us on besides delivering?"
