G20 Business Forum emphasises prioritising global south

Date: Feb 23, 2025

The Global Business Forum for G20, the B20, has emphasised the importance of dealing with the priorities of the global south, especially in light of the current geopolitical tensions.

From Monday, February 24, the G20 Finance Ministers are set to discuss issues related to financial inclusion, coordinating global economic policy and infrastructure financing, among others.

The Finance Track Meetings, led by the National Treasury and the South African (SA) Reserve Bank, comprise four technical working groups.

The four-day gathering in Cape Town comes as relations between the United States and SA loom large, with key American officials opting to skip the event, something Pretoria has shrugged off.

B20 SA Sherpa, Cas Coovadia, says by August they want to be ready to hand over the recommendations to President Cyril Ramaphosa to put into the G20 process.

“We will use all efforts to try and ensure that the recommendations we make to the G20 countries; 1, do find a way into the communique that comes out at the G20 Summit in November and 2, that we work with both countries going forward to check the implementation of recommendations that we make,” says Coovadia.
