Africa Energy Forum opens in Cape Town with focus on continental unity, energy transition

Date: Jun 17, 2025

The Africa Energy Forum kicked on Tuesday at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, in South Africa's (SA) Western Cape Province.

SA's Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, is expected to deliver the opening address later this afternoon.

The four-day forum brings together energy leaders and stakeholders from across the continent and the globe to advance solutions for Africa's energy future.

Held under the theme “Africa United”, this year’s gathering aims to fast-track the continent’s energy transition, placing emphasis on innovation, investment, and collaboration to tackle Africa’s persistent energy access and sustainability challenges.

The forum offers a unique platform for dialogue, as policymakers, investors, and technical experts engage in closed-door discussions ahead of the official programme. High on the agenda are topics such as renewable energy integration, infrastructure financing, regional power trade, and strategies to close the energy access gap.

Ramokgopa’s opening remarks are expected to outline SA’s position on continental energy co-operation, and reaffirm the country’s commitment to the just energy transition and green industrialisation.
