African Energy Week 2024 puts spotlight on STEM innovation

Date: Nov 6, 2024

This year's African Energy Week conference has been a showcase of innovation and youthful ingenuity, with scholars from Mozambique, Nigeria, Namibia, and Angola presenting groundbreaking solutions to pressing energy challenges.

The event, held in the vibrant city of Cape Town, South Africa (SA) is sponsored by ExxonMobil's STEM Africa initiative and forms part of a larger endeavour by the ExxonMobil Foundation and Junior Achievement Africa to nurture the next generation of scientific minds.

The competition, a new addition to the African Energy Week, highlighted the exceptional talents of high school students from across the continent.

These young innovators travelled to SA to present their projects before a distinguished panel of judges, including Alvin Abraham, President of the ExxonMobil Foundation; Katrina Fisher, Managing Director of ExxonMobil Angola; and Frank Kretschmer, Chairperson of ExxonMobil Mozambique.

The event not only offered a stage for these students to display their creative solutions but also served as a networking hub, connecting them with industry stalwarts and opening doors to future career paths.

Participation in the event promises the students not just a chance to contribute to the energy sector but also provides them with invaluable international exposure and a glimpse into the industry's evolving landscape.
