SA hails AfCFTA as a catalyst for Africa’s economic growth

Date: May 13, 2025

South African (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa has reaffirmed the significance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a crucial driver of economic growth and integration across Africa.

Speaking at the Africa Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Forum 2025, currently underway in Abidjan, Ramaphosa addressed an influential gathering of Heads of State, CEOs of leading African and global companies, entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers.

He stressed that AfCFTA is a transformative initiative that holds the potential to reshape the continent’s economic landscape.

“The AfCFTA is a fundamentally transformative mechanism that was adopted by the leaders of the continent,” Ramaphosa said. “We should recognise and applaud the fact that political leaders, under the aegis of President Kagame, who led the reform effort, saw wisdom in scaling the fortunes of Africa up.”

Ramaphosa emphasised that AfCFTA enables Africa to strengthen its trade ties, unlock investment opportunities, and bolster industrial development, positioning the continent as a formidable player in the global economy.
