Operation Vulindlela was established in October 2020 as a joint initiative between the Presidency and the National Treasury, the programme aims to fast-track structural reforms to drive inclusive and accelerated economic growth.
Thirty-five reform actions were prioritised across five key areas, with government departments and agencies assigned responsibility for their implementation. A dedicated Vulindlela Unit within the Presidency and the National Treasury monitors progress and provides technical support.
Operation Vulindlela is focused on modernising and transforming key network industries, namely electricity, water, transport, and digital communications. These sectors are viewed as the backbone of South Africa’s economy and are essential for building a globally competitive and inclusive economy.
Additionally, reforms to the country’s visa regime are being prioritised to attract critical skills and boost tourism.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Ramaphosa said: “Operation Vulindlela is about breaking down the barriers to growth by implementing these reforms, we are laying the foundation for a stronger, more resilient economy that works for all SA.”
