SARB’s fight against inflation yielding positive results: Governor

Date: Jun 4, 2025

Governor Lesetja Kganyago says the South African Reserve Bank’s (SARB) fight against inflation is starting to yield positive outcomes, bringing about relief for consumers facing economic pressures.

Kganyago led the SARB Forum on an engagement with members of the community in Soweto, Gauteng province following the announcement of an interest rate cut by 25 basis points.

He says further relief is expected in line with low inflation but raised concerns over the global tariff war.

Kganyago says they have revised the trajectory of inflation over the next three years.

“We have revised it lower; we expected that inflation will average 3% during the course of this year. It will, there will be months where it will go to 4% and even go about 5%, about 4.5%, but the average for this year would be just around 3%. But today we also received Gross Domestic Product figures and not a pretty picture, figures which show that we are just growing by 0,1%,” says Kganyago.
