On Wednesday, Trade Minister Parks Tau announced Sizekhaya Holdings as the preferred bidder for the National Lottery licence. However, BOSA has questioned the decision, arguing that the company’s majority shareholder has ties to the African National Congress (ANC), making the appointment politically questionable.
The party has called for the entire appointment process to be restarted, insisting that the awarding of the licence should prioritise public benefit over political connections**.
“This is the largest tender in South Africa we are talking about. The Lottery should be funding the youth, not the politically connected,” said BOSA Spokesperson, Roger Solomons.
Solomons urged the Minister to disclose a full list of adjudicators, publish all declarations of interest, and present a detailed report to Parliament, outlining the evaluation criteria, scoring system, and outcomes for all submitted bids.
