The 2024 community services cohort has been staging a protest at the Premier's offices in Bhisho since Monday, calling for immediate action.
Dr Philisiwe Ngcai, the Spokesperson for the group, expressed frustration over the government's claim of insufficient funds.
"I don't understand why they are prioritising and telling us about litigations whereas they could be mitigating us by hiring us. By hiring us, you lessen the number of litigations that you will be facing. Source funds from whoever because that is something you can do. That is the power that the premier has. We are not at the MEC or HOD because those ones have failed us. We tried to engage them; we want the premier to give the word," Ngcai stated.
The doctors argue that employing them would not only address the shortage of medical professionals in the public healthcare system but also reduce the legal costs associated with medical litigations. They believe that the premier has the authority to allocate funds and make the necessary decisions to absorb them into the system.
