Participating in a fireside chat at Stellenbosch University, Tshazibana says there might be space for blended financing from both the private and public sector in dealing with climate change adaptation requirements.
She says central banks and supervisors globally play a critical role in managing the negative economic and financial impact of climate change, while upholding their mandates of price and financial stability.
“We will focus on how we think about the role of the private sector, the role of multilateral banks in adaptation finance, how we think about the role of these vertical climate funds like the green climate funds that have been set up, what they are doing about adaptation finance. I spoke earlier about the work that the Network for Greening the Financial System has done with blended finance but basically that’s the conversation that we’re curating,” she adds.
Tshazibana says that there might be space for a blended finance approach to dealing with adaptation and the work insurance protection gaps that are part of their G20 plan.
