Reflecting on the summit, Ramaphosa said the engagements had been highly productive, especially in light of SA’s upcoming role as host of the G20 Leaders' Summit later this year.

“The visit has been extremely valuable, particularly because we are assuming the G20 Presidency,” he said. “It offered us the chance to hold direct discussions with a number of heads of state and government.”

According to Ramaphosa, SA used the platform to push for stronger global cooperation on climate change and fair support for countries undergoing energy transitions. He noted that the current global response often overlooks the unique challenges faced by developing nations.

“We highlighted the need for the international community to treat climate action and energy transition in a way that is both equitable and responsive to differing national circumstances,” he added.

The G7 Outreach Programme brings together leaders from invited countries to deliberate on shared challenges and priorities. This year’s dialogue placed emphasis on climate resilience, sustainable development, and global security.

SA is expected to welcome G20 leaders later this year, in what will be a pivotal moment for the country’s global diplomacy efforts.
