AUBBTA is warning of a looming humanitarian and economic crisis in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
The association has criticised delayed intervention by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Chair and Mozambique's opposition, cautioning that these disruptions could trigger mass migration and destabilise neighbouring countries.
AUBBTA also condemned Zimbabwean authorities for confiscating goods from citizens crossing into SA and called on SA President Cyril Ramaphosa to uphold African trade agreements.
The organisation Chairperson, Mukhwathi Phumudzo says the delay by the concerned parties to engage in dialogue is going to cause great damage to Mozambicans.
“This situation is causing instability and economic crisis in the SADC region. The root cause is the group of defectors. That is why we are calling for President (of Zimbabwe) Emmerson Mnangagwa to step aside because of this damage. At this stage we cannot blame the colonisers or the apartheid government, and cast them as scape goats, because so far in SADC, we do not have a white leader,” said Phumudzo.
He expressed concern at what he called “blacks abusing other blacks” and called upon Ramaphosa to take action against the government of Zimbabwe, because they are violating “African continental trade market and indirectly (imposing) sanctions against SA.
