Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Gwede Mantashe encouraged delegates at the Africa Oil Week 2024 conference to consider investing in oil and gas in Africa. He emphasized the importance of sustainable practices in these industries, highlighting their potential to improve the continent’s economy and quality of life.
In the Government Gazette 51138, published on 30 August 2024, Minister Mantashe expressed his intention to explore the Karoo for gas reserves. He stated that the main aim of this investigation is to establish the nature of the subsurface geology and potential risks. This exploration could help South Africa establish energy security and diversify the country’s energy mix.
