Despite completing their compulsory community service, over two thousand pharmacists are struggling to find employment.
The pharmacists plan to hand over a memorandum to the Minister of Health, calling for immediate action. Trevor Ngobeni, the Spokesperson for the group, emphasised the need for regulatory reforms and prioritisation of pharmacists' employment needs.
"We call upon the Minister of Health, the Director-General, and the South African Pharmacy Council to reform all pharmacy act laws and ensure that the private sector intensifies the recruitment of pharmacists. Pharmacists are the backbone of this profession. Yes, we have pharmacist assistants, but they are secondary to pharmacists," Ngobeni stated.
