High-level colloquium on migration, border security to address corruption in SA

Date: Apr 1, 2025

South Africa’s (SA) capital, Pretoria, is set to host a pivotal High-Level Colloquium on Migration and Border Security this afternoon.

The event, featuring key stakeholders in border management, will spotlight efforts to strengthen the nation’s border security and combat corruption within its immigration systems.

Led by the Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Border Management Authority, Dr. Michael Masiapato, the colloquium is a collaborative effort with Brand South Africa CEO, Neville Matjie, and the Executive Director of the Institute for Global Dialogue, Dr. Philani Mthembu. It underscores SA's commitment to addressing the challenges posed by corruption in border control.

Momentum in the fight against corruption has been bolstered by the Department of Home Affairs’ recent launch of a joint Anti-Corruption initiative in partnership with the Special Investigating Unit.

Minister of Home Affairs, Dr. Leon Schreiber, has unveiled a comprehensive plan aimed at tackling systemic corruption within the country’s immigration and border management systems.
