City Power Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says it is promising that they might reach the Sunday deadline.
He says by extending working hours and suspending penalty fees, technicians were able to resolve about 400 queries in a short period of time.
Mangena says Service Delivery Centres will remain open from 7am to 7pm this weekend.
“Over 99% of our vending prepaid meters have been duly upgraded, with just a handful of that category of customers still pending upgrades. Out of those outstanding customers, 441 are in Alexandra where our technicians have been facing some reluctance. However, with the TID deadline drawing near along with the suspension of penalty fees, we have seen an uptick in the number of customers voluntarily coming forward. We have also managed to reduce the number of unconverted meters in the Midrand area that could not be located due to address challenges from 255 to 151.”
