The 31-year-old woman, who police have described as the boy's close relative, is expected to answer to a number of charges in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court, in the city of Johannesburg.
The boy was reported missing by his mother on May 12 and he was found the next morning half-naked and unconscious on the staircase of the complex in which he lived. He was declared dead shortly after arriving at a local Hospital. Community Leader, June Phillip says the community is reeling from shock.
“We are devastated by the alleged perpetrator that was arrested on Friday. The community is very sad, because we as a community supported the mother and the family, and apparently the mother was arrested on Friday. So, the community is really sad, and devastated, especially the community. The wounds were opened on Friday, where the community actually mourned. I feel that if the police went out on the day that she reported Jayden missing, and went into the house, maybe, just maybe they could have found Jayden in the house,” Phillip said.
